Joan Mir is expected to remain with HRC until the end of 2026. There has been no official information from HRC or the racer management, but via Motorsport Spain the information is that in a verbal agreement, Joan Mir will continue to race in MotoGP for two more seasons with HRC until the end of 2026 and will complete a total of eight seasons in the MotoGP class, half with Suzuki and the other half with Honda.
Even though Mir and other Honda factory racers have not been able to make the RC213V competitive in recent years, Honda appreciates Mir’s progress and whatever he has indicated in the development of the motorbike so that he is the first choice to complete next year’s line-up where Mir will still be with Luca Marini who is under contract until the end of 2025.
After the 7th series in the 2024 MotoGP season, Joan Mir is currently the highest ranked Honda racer in the World Championship standings, namely 18th with 13 points, four points ahead of Johann Zarco (P19), five ahead of Takaaki Nakagami P (20) and well ahead of Luca Marini, who is ranked 24th and still has not scored a point after 7 Grands Prix.
In our opinion, this decision may be more or less caused by the decision of Maverick Vinales, who initially also spoke with HRC to finally choose KTM Tech3 next year. It was initially widely rumored that Vinales would replace Mir in the factory Honda team in 2025. With this, the three places in the Honda team are clearer (Marini, Zarco, & Mir). Only Takaaki Nakagami’s position at LCR-Honda is still pending.
