The Grand Prix race on Sunday of the 2024 Mugello MotoGP race weekend turned out to be the key moment that made Ducati Corse confident that the racer they would choose to partner Pecco in 2025 was Marc Marquez rather than other choices such as Jorge Martin and Enea Bastianini. This fact was stated by Gigi Dall’Igna herself.

“We only agreed after Sunday’s race at Mugello, in the afternoon. We are very confident that Marc Marquez can make a difference on the Desmosedici. “He and Pecco, they will be able to fight for the title,” Gigi said, continuing, “There are those who love and there are those who hate Marc Marquez. On the contrary, Pecco Bagnaia represents our flag, there is nothing more to prove. Choosing Marc, for me, had purely sporting reasons. With them (Pecco & Marc) we will have a bigger chance to win the title.”

” Marketing has nothing to do with this. Of course, with Marc the visibility of the team will increase, but we signed him for a reason: we want two riders capable of winning the World Championship. We will have the best team in the history of Ducati.”

“Max Biaggi said motorbike racing is not a classical dance, that’s why having two strikers (Pecco & Marc) in the team is the best thing. The current team climate (with Bastianini) is great, but for next year (with Marc) sports management could be more complicated .”

If what Gigi said is correct, then according to the sequence of events, Marc’s choice was not because Martin decided to move to Aprilia, but maybe it was the opposite where Martin was sure he wanted to talk to Rivola and accepted to join Aprilia after learning about Ducati Corse’s decision on Sunday afternoon at Mugello.
