The reduced portion and dimensions of the Repsol brand logo on the body/fairing of the Honda RC213V ridden by Joan Mir and Luca Marini in this year’s MotoGP means that this Spanish energy company will have less contribution and collaboration in the 2024 competition season compared to the previous year. And in 2025 it will be even ‘worse’, where it is estimated that Repsol will end its collaboration with Honda after 30 years together in the premiere Grand Prix class.
This information emerged from Motorsport Spain after the Catalunya MotoGP event and before the Mugello race weekend that Repsol has the potential to end its 30 year collaboration with Honda/HRC at the end of the 2024 season. One of the longest collaborative relationships and financial – technical cooperation in championship history and has resulted in 15 world championship titles, 183 series race wins and 455 podiums.
Regarding the smaller dimensions of the Repsol logo at HRC this year, this is because after the departure of Marc Márquez at the end of 2023, the energy company, which renewed its cooperation with HRC the same year until the end of 2024 with a 1+1 formula, introduced a clause in the contract to reduce its financial contribution. and, as a result, the physical dimensions and proportions of the Repsol logo decal are reduced on the RC213V.
According to Motorsport, there is a slight difference in approach between HRC and Repsol, where up to the first third of this season both have not moved to extend their partnership again. Repsol wants to focus on a wider spread of non-fossil fuels in MotoGP in the future.
In 2024, MotoGP requires the use of 40% non-fossil gasoline for premier class teams, a percentage that must reach 100% in the first year of changes to technical regulations in 2027. And seeing this Repsol wants to be part of this change globally, not focusing on one team. Maybe in the future Repsol will become the sole supplier of one material used in this primary class.
