Jorge Martín was again the main focus of all eyes this Thursday in the Mugello GP paddock after the Italian media predicted that he had secured a seat at the factory Ducati team for the 2025 season. However, currently on the first day of the 2024 Mugello MotoGP race weekend, neither the racer nor the team have make an official announcement regarding this matter; However, Martin, who until the 6th series was undisputed leader of the standings and Ducati’s best racer, looked very relaxed as if he was sure about his future.
“I am calm. I don’t know, in the end a lot of focus was on this weekend, on this decision. But I focus on what is mine, on what I can control; and that’s riding a motorbike. I want to focus on the weekend. On Monday or Tuesday there will be time to keep moving forward, keep talking, and see where my future takes me. But right now I’m focused on tomorrow. This is a very important track for the team, for me and for Ducati. So it’s important to do it well.”
And Jorge Martin also gave his opinion regarding Marc Marquez who seemed to have closed the door on options for Pramac Racing in 2025, “Well, in the end it’s very subjective. You have to see where you feel comfortable, where you can be a better rider. And if you answer it, you definitely have a reason. I am very happy with where I am; In my opinion, this team is a good tool. Especially since my version, which I climbed with them from Moto2 and they always gave everything for me. I was very comfortable there with that.”
Martin also assured that all the excitement that has occurred in the last month will not affect him at all while waiting for the official announcement from Ducati. “I can only answer what I have answered since January or February. I have been in this struggle for three years; so it’s nothing new. I’m focused on racing and it doesn’t affect me.
“The simple thing is to accept the existence of this fight and live with the pressure. It’s more about the media and things coming from the outside, not from the inside. So ultimately the focus is on your core, on your people; and avoid thinking too much about what is happening outside.”
“My team will always give their best at a technical level. Ducati also trusts me to death; Otherwise, I wouldn’t have the contract I have. Ultimately this is a question of motivation, of personal aspirations. To be a factory racer, to experience that and try it out.”
“I think, after four years, when I was in the team (Pramac) the most, my body asked me to change. And we’ll see what happens. But ultimately, I think a brand wants to win with its factory team for a number of reasons. But for me, I want to make that change.”
What happened two years ago with Bastianini also made Martin more careful about all the possibilities. “Perhaps without experiencing it, I would now say something else. But at the end of the day, you understand that Ducati is a company and they have an interest that may not only be at the level of results; but also outside, in sales or whatever. And in the end, at that moment, Enea was stronger than me and that’s why she qualified [to race for the factory team]. But currently, that is not the case.”
