MotoGP presents new technical regulations for 2027. In general, these regulations limit all the potential performance of motorbikes that currently exist and by making all manufacturers like restarting from the beginning again, another goal is that MotoGP wants to seek the attention of new manufacturers to want to join as a manufacturer. Sixth and/or seventh in the MotoGP Manufacturing Line Up because they see that they are not too far behind the established manufacturers in the primary class of prototype racing. One that is quite likely to be attracted is the German brand, BMW
BMW Motorrad itself, which is currently headed by individuals who like motorsport, such as Markus Flasch, who has served as chairman of BMW Motorrad since November 1 2023, looks quite enthusiastic about the opening of this potential.
Last March 2024 he attended the World Superbike Championship event in Barcelona for the first time, Toprak Razgatlioglu achieved his first pole position with the M1000RR and secured BMW’s first victory in a major race since 2013.
Austrian Markus Flasch is a big MotoGP fan and continues to maintain good relations with promoters Dorna and their boss Carmelo Ezpeleta who has repeatedly advocated entry into the premier class on the BMW board even with his predecessor Schramm.
However, the decision to enter BMW into MotoGP is certainly not just a decision determined by them. There is an entity above, namely the BMW brand in general. And after the release of the Point Draft for the New MotoGP Regulations 2027, there is the latest update from Markus Flasch, who is a representative of the BMW Brand, which basically requires one thing if BMW wants to participate in MotoGP.
“When everyone starts from scratch, that’s the time to start. But until then, we have to be successful in what we do. For me, there is no way to get promoted without success. For me that’s what I’ve said to my team from day one: Success is a must in the World Superbike Championship.
” We can prepare at the same time, but I will only make the decision if we succeed. We look at this strategically. So we have to evaluate it very wisely; this was definitely not a passionate decision on my part. This would be a wise and widely supported decision.
” Every major decision like this is widely supported at a company like BMW, and preparations must be made carefully and responsibly. If all this makes sense, then you get stability in the long term, because after me someone else will be the boss of BMW Motorrad. That’s why I can’t talk concretely yet, let’s start evaluating. “
So in general, according to Flach, BMW requires success in Superbike or in this case becoming WSBK World Champion if BMW Meu takes part in MotoGP in the future.
