Starting in 2027, MotoGP will feature a new motorbike in the new era, the 850 cc MotoGP era, for which currently the regulations that have been approved by the five manufacturers are the 4 cylinder engine platform. Talking about 2027 means that currently manufacturers only have less than 2 years to prepare This new motorbike. . They are all said to have started this new project. . Aprilia has admitted this, and now KTM has even discussed their plans, especially regarding the engine platform concept that they will introduce later in the 850 cc era.

In general, what is present in the regulations is the number of cylinders, namely 4 cylinders. However, regarding the multi-cylinder form, it is not written, which means the same as now. It can be 4 in-line cylinders or 4 V-cylinders. This was asked by the director of KTM MotoGP Technology, Sebastian Risse. By Speedweek , will KTM maintain the V4 engine or is it interested in using another platform such as Inline-4?

” Everyone agreed that we should maintain the four-cylinder base that all manufacturers use, but still allow for differentiation. What everyone involved doesn’t want is for the concept to escalate like it has in the past.

It would make sense to look at another version of the four-cylinder engine. I wouldn’t rule out an inline four-cylinder engine either. All I can say is that we have decided on the engine concept, but I can’t reveal which one today. “

What is also quite interesting is the fact that the name Kurt Trieb, a competent and experienced racing engine designer, will take part in the team developing the 850 cc KTM MotoGP 2027 engine. Trieb is also the person who is jointly responsible for the initial design of the BMW superbike unit which uses the concept with four in-line cylinders and finally this year it goes by the name M1000RR which is driven by Toprak Razgatlioglu.
